Description:

This position is responsible for the timely and accurate posting of payments, denials and adjustments. Accurate and detailed posting of EOB payments from insurance companies to patient accounts. Payment Posters are also responsible for ensuring complete balance between check amounts and totals on summary transmittals.

Responsibilities:
  • Reviewing and interpreting explanation of benefits (EOB) from insurance carriers to post appropriate payment and denial codes
  • Ability to extract and post insurance payment information from EOB for each appropriate line item of service, and enter adjustments as indicated
  • Identifying and resolving underpayment from insurance companies
  • Flagging all denied charges for collections department
  • Preparing daily reports (Excel spreadsheets)
  • Thoroughly documenting additional necessary information relevant to EOBs for other departments to rely on
  • Assume responsibility for staying updated on changes to insurance companies and fee schedules
  • Identifying incomplete information necessary to post remittance
  • Communicating with supervisor to resolve questions, inconsistencies or missing data
  • Keeping abreast with the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and Intentional Classification of Diseases (ICD) 9/10 code books
  • Adhering to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations at all times

Required Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to type 50 wpm with zero errors
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently
  • Possess strong and effective customer service skills telephonically to include proper grammar with a positive and friendly demeanor
  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail
  • Display excellent judgment at all times
  • Work in a team environment
  • Ability to work overtime as needed

Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent
  • 1 year posting experience
  • Well-versed in medical terminology
  • Must display longevity in prior employments
