Lead Welder - Lake Worth, TX
 

Summary:

Under minimal supervision, the Lead Welder performs complex and precision welding techniques in the fabrication, joining and repair of Fluid End and Power End Components within one or more work teams. Performs visual and in-process inspections in accordance with API and ISO quality specifications. Helps facilitate the team in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and solving welding problems that enhance through-put within the work team. Responsible for supporting the team and team' s objectives, by making a good quality product. Responsible for training team members and coordinating the work activities of less experienced trades personnel performing welding activities.  Required to pass periodic welding tests and qualifications in compliance with qualification procedures. 

The Lead Welder ensures that all parts are correctly cut and trimmed as needed with a torch, parts are correctly fitted together, and tacking and welding completed per procedures and/or blueprints.  This position will coach and train weld shop personnel reporting directly to this position as needed.

Welders and Welder’ s helpers will report directly to this position

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Set-up/run RT & UT Quality Vessel Weld Processes – 3 (GMAW, FCAW, GTAW).
  • Set-up/run RT Quality Pipe Weld – All Positions (6G).
  • Set-up/run UT Quality Nozzle Welds – All positions (6G).
  • Set-up/run Carbon Arc Gouging.
  • Able to make any UT or RT Weld Repair.
  • Clean and stamp all welds.
  • Set-up/run all structural non-code welds.
  • Know how to run all welding equipment.
  • Ability to read drawings, WPS’ s/PQR’ s.
  • Ability to lead others and plan ahead.
  • Knowledge of PT, MT, UT, RT methods.
  • Ability to make correct decisions.
  • Ability to work safely
  • Ensure the correct fabrication of assemblies per prints in order to meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Coach and train weld shop personnel reporting directly to this position as needed.

Skills/Knowledge
  • Strong Leadership and organization skills
  • Must have a strong understanding of how to interpret and use blueprints, welding specifications, welding codes, and welding procedures.
  • Must be able to use and read welding measuring devices to include but not limited to squares, levels, and tape measures.
  • Successful completion of welding tests and qualifications.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques (oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, MIG, TIG, controlled atmosphere, and plasma cutting), tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of non-destructive inspection techniques.
  • Skill in the fabrication, joining and repair of a variety of metal objects, equipment, fixtures and structures.
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication.
  • Must have a strong understanding of how to interpret and use blueprints, welding specifications, and welding procedures.
  • Must be able to use and read welding measuring devices to include but not limited to squares, levels, and tape measures.
  • Understanding and skills to maintain continuity logs and populate routings.

Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent diploma.
  • Successful completion of welding tests and qualifications.
  • Preferred: Two Year Associates Degree in Metal Fabrication (assembly, welding, print reading, and forming). 

Experience
  • 7+ year of experience.
